Marketing has created a certain mystique around the quality of carbon frames; terms such as high tensile, high modulus, super high modulus and ultra-high modulus dominate the market. These terms refer to the properties of carbon, not its quality. Names such as Toho or Toray are sometimes mentioned to create a certain credibility. Some brands claim that all carbon is the same or that they exclusively use ultra-high modulus fibers. In reality, high-quality carbon frames must contain different types of fibers, carefully positioned to achieve the right technical properties. For example, our SCULTURA frame consists of more than 400 individual carbon sections, weighs only 822 grams and takes more than 45 hours to build a single frame.

Visually identical frames can vary greatly in quality depending on the type and mix of carbon fibers used. MERIDA uses a CF rating to indicate performance level; 2 is the lowest level, 5 the highest. Small adjustments in the carbon fibers used can both reduce weight and improve performance.
